Fr. Michael writes: The Holy Spirit which came to Mary is not tame. It is the force which made the beginning of creation. Through its power the Virgin Mary conceives and gives birth to the Son of God. In her a new creation comes to light. There is something else radically new about Mary. She is the woman at the centre of our history. She is the woman who brings about Jesus’ real presence into the world. She can say of him “This is my Body, This is my Blood” in a way that no other person can say of him. Through her, his presence is known and celebrated. For he is not only the Son of David and the Son of God: he is the Son whom she will bring forth for the life of the world.
